Andrew Peterson concert

btlog_cover.jpgThe concert was AWESOME!!! Need I even say anymore. . .

But I will shamelessly steal some of what I wrote on my own blog about it and share it with you. What great presentation of the gospel beginning with the Passover all the way to Jesus’ birth. Not only did I get the CD for myself, but also for two of my siblings.

One song brought me to tears, a song called “Labor of Love” (please go to the above link and listen to it, or at least read the lyrics.) It talks about how it was not a silent night that Jesus was born, but that there was blood and crying and pain, that Mary had no mother to hold her hand or midwife to help her out. It made think of the births of my three girls, and I imagined what that would have been like (especially with my firstborn), with no one to help me. As they sang of Joseph being there with her and holding her, I though of how Erik was behind me, holding and supporting me as each of the girls were born. There is something sacred about the birth of my own kids, and to think that Jesus was born that way too, and Mary probably felt some of same feelings as I do as I think about my girls’ births!

When I became a wife, I began to learn about how the Lord loves me as a Husband. And now as a mother, I am learning how the Lord loves me as His daughter. Last night’s concert put more flesh on the Christmas story, reminding me that Joseph and Mary were real parents, that Jesus was a real newborn, and there was real pain and blood, fear and love at His birth.

So thank you, Andrew and the others, for being used of the Lord in my heart. I look forward to owning the CD I ordered last night. Please also check out Kelly and Cathy’s blog articles on the concert.

I’m not a movie person, but I recently saw The Nativity Story and I highly recommend it for the same reason Rinnie loved this concert and especially the song she mentions. It gave me a whole new perspective on both the backstory of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus that has made this Advent season much more meaningful than previous ones. To see that they were real people, poor and persecuted, to see the “stable” where Jesus was born (if you can even call it that) meant a lot to me and increased my faith.
