Focusing on fashion today. This list from Tim Gunn of Project Runway outlines the 10 essential wardrobe items for women. These are classic pieces. They aren’t trendy so they won’t go out of style after a few months. The most important thing to remember with these 10 ten items is to make sure the fit is flattering to you. Don’t buy a certain style just because everyone else has it, unless it looks good on you.
1. Basic Black Dress - Often called the “Little Black Dress”, this one has been around for a long time. The dress doesn’t have to be little any longer. One that sits at the knee is nice.
2. Trench Coat - Trench coats aren’t just for men these days. They can be trendy or classic. Most any store sells this piece now and even Target sells several nice trench coats. It’s great for fall and spring and you can pick it up in a wide range of lengths.
3. Classic Dress Pants - Notice it doesn’t say “Classic Black Pants”. However, black is the most flattering color on just about all figures and will last a long time.
4. White Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic that comes in many styles. Choose one that flatters you.
5. Jeans - A pair that make you look and feel fabulous.
6. Cashmere Sweater - I would consider this a luxury item but it can also make an outfit a bit more classy.
7. Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. I find that we don’t wear skirts or dresses much these days.
8. Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with “dressing up” for daytime.
9. Blazer - Blazers sound masculine, but when you get the right one with a proper shape i’s not. Women’s blazers should follow the silhouette of a woman’s body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans.
10. Sweat Suit Alternative - It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that’s why this doesn’t say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day.
So what are you missing from this list?
I have everything except for the cashmere sweater (just can’t afford one) and a blazer. For some reason I can’t seem to find a good blazer. I do have a fun lime green trench coat. I also love wearing dresses and skirts. Sometime they are more comfortable than pants.

I’m without a lot of these things! Don’t have a trenchcoat, a cashmere sweater, a day dress, a blazer, or a sweat suit alternative. Just the sweat suit. Oh well, fashion has never been my forte.
