Handmade Jewelry

nullI love to make my own jewelry. It started a few years ago while I was a student at UCF. I was having a horrible day and had a free afternoon…so being the introvert that I am, I thought that some time alone was probably a good idea. I had seen a sign for a bead store across the street from UCF, so I decided to check it out. I am so glad that I did. The Bead Basket didn’t look like much on the outside, but once inside I was surrounded by thousands of wholesale beads and friendly employees. I spent several hours browsing and then making making a birthday present for one of my roommates. The employees were very helpful and showed me how to assemble a necklace. Since that day I have been hooked. I love making jewelry for me because it is unique and I love making jewelry for others because I feel like I am giving part of myself as I design and then assemble something for them. If you have never made jewelry I encourage you to visit a bead or craft store and give it a try.

(I tried to take a picture of some of my handmade jewelry, but my camera wasn’t cooperating, so if you want to see it just stop me sometime at church because I will probably be wearing jewelry that I have made.)

Do you have a favorite handmade craft?

I started making hand-made cards using Stampin’ Up materials and stamp sets several years ago! I love it! It is a calming type of “therapy” for me when I need to decompress away from three munchkins at home. I really enjoy being able to create almost any look I can think of! And, like you said, Christy, I always feel like I am giving a piece of myself away to my loved ones whenever I make one for them and give it to them for a special occasion! I never realized there were so many options and unique ways to make cards until I started going to some workshops and mini-demonstrations with my friends.

I love making anything handmade and have gone through phases. I used to stamp and make cards years ago. I used to make jewelry a few years ago. I love to sew but don’t have the time or space for it right now. I still have all my stamps and jewelry making tools. And it was always fun. I should probably get back into crafting!

Our Life Group women all went out beading one night. It was my first time beading and I had a GREAT time! It was fun to chat while we created and then to see all of our final products!

I love all kinds of crafting although I only dabble…I haven’t gotten into anything “full blown” yet. :)

What a great idea for Life Group Women! I’ll keep that in mind!

I love making cards too! I have been a scrapbooker for several years and started to make cards using my scrapbooking supplies. I haven’t tried Stampin’ Up, but I know other people who really enjoy it.

The Bead Lounge on Corrine is really great, too. They do parties. We went there for a Life Group ladies outing around Mother’s Day. We all made something for ourselves for Mother’s Day. It was really fun to see peoples personalities come out through their jewelry.
